Recent news from the Georgia Medical Board 3/6/14
"Question regarding Chemical Peels is that the practice of medicine and in a non-clinical setting such as a beauty salon. Board advised yes that is considered the practice of medicine."
We agreed with the medical board and these type of procedures should not be practiced outside of a clinical setting with a supervising, well trained, experienced Physician.
Chemical Peels are a common method for refreshing the skin and are performed or supervised by Dr. Atkins at the Atlanta Medispa. Many times this is a great way to address uneven skin pigmentation, acne scars (mild), fine lines and wrinkles, solar damage and large pores.
As skin represents our body's largest organ, it is live tissue that should be treated with care. During a chemical peel, one should know if the patient desires a superfical chemical that will allow them to glow that weekend or one that is much deeper and the goal is to remove deep lines. While many times we prefer a combination of chemical peels and laser resurfacing, the patient must be educated on the downtime necessary for a good outcome.
Superficial chemical peels should result in some redness with or without mild flaking.
Medium depth chemical peels can result in prolonged redness with or without some blistering and skin sloughing.
Deep peels usually require the patient have some pain control and dressings placed on the skin afterwards to allow skin rejuvenation. These should only be performed by a physician. Not all deep "peeling" of damaged skin is appropriate or desired by many patients. This is where the art of cosmetic and laser surgery with chemicals come into play.
There is no reason for allowing anyone to treat your skin without appropriate training and expertise. You will feel very comfortable at Atlanta Medispa knowing that we have performed thousands of chemicals with a high patient satisfaction record.
Many times we offer packages that combine superficial and intermediate chemical peel techniques in combination with our SilkPeel® microdermabrasion chemical infustion system. These lighter and superficial peels, serve to freshen the skin and lesson the pore size, leaving the skin freshened and rejuvenated. These are one of our most popular products.
At the time of your consultation, Dr. Atkins will personally review if chemical peels would be best for you.
Of course after any chemical peel or laser treatment, your post care should be sun avoidance and an SPF daily to protect your investment.
