The Evaluation

Dr. Frodel will evaluate you or your child in terms of specifically what is found to bothersome to the patient. He will then review the surgical goal of creating re-shaped external ears that not only do not draw attention to themselves but are aesthetically pleasing.  The surgical procedure will be introduced, which is performed under general anesthesia in children and can be performed under local anesthesia, with or without sedation, in adults.

 

The Surgery

Via limited incisions on the back of the ear, the cartilage deformities are visualized, then using a combination of incisions in the cartilage with sutures placed in these same structures, the ear is re-shaped to a more desirable shape and projection from the side of the head.  Dressings are then placed and left on for several days to help with the early healing and overall scarring process.
